Scope: A MAXIMUM, and reached only where the mother's own statutory maternity pay ran for the two weeks she cannot refuse and no longer. Regulation 10(1) subtracts from 39 (a) every week of statutory maternity pay or maternity allowance payable to her up to the time she returned to work or her pay period was curtailed and (b) the weeks the other parent has notified an intention to claim — so the figure a particular couple has is per-case and is not published. Regulation 22(1) states the same calculation for the adoption side. PAY, not LEAVE: the leave equivalent is Shared parental leave: maximum weeks (50 weeks, 52 less the same two), and the two figures differ because statutory pay runs for 39 weeks where leave runs for 52. The limbs are Statutory Maternity Pay: weeks payable and Compulsory maternity leave (weeks); this record is only their difference (D14), and the build refuses a build in which the three disagree.

How it is worked out: Statutory Maternity Pay: weeks payable − Compulsory maternity leave (weeks) — recomputed from its corroborated inputs on every build.

Not a figure any document states, which is the whole reason it is a derivation — the checklist has said so since it was written ("the 2014 Regs state 39 weeks less maternity weeks, never 37"), and this is the D14 re-scope it asked for. WHAT THE GROSS LIMB IS, SAID PLAINLY: regulation 10(1) of the 2014 Regulations states its OWN 39 — "The number of weeks in respect of which M or P is entitled to payments of statutory shared parental pay (birth) in respect of C is 39 weeks less—" — and the corpus does not yet hold that 39 as a record of its own, so the derivation reads the SMP maternity pay period instead (Statutory Maternity Pay: weeks payable, SI 1986/1960 reg 2(2), also 39). The two are the same number and the same 39 weeks of statutory pay for one child — reg 10(1)(a) subtracts exactly the weeks of that period the mother used — but they are SEPARATELY ENACTED, and if one moved without the other this record would follow the wrong one. That is a debt, named here rather than hidden: the ShPP Regulations' own as-made text is not archived (only their current view is, and receipt_url resolves an SI citation to the as-made XML), so reg 10(1) can be neither a receipt nor a carried limb today. It is seeded; when the document lands, the honest shape is an SI carry for reg 10(1)'s 39 and this derivation reading THAT. The subtrahend needs no such caveat: reg 10(1)(a) subtracts weeks of the mother's maternity pay, and the two compulsory weeks are the fewest she can have taken. GOV.UK's employer guide prints the 37 and is registered as the guidance source; the Regulations print 39 less a variable, and the difference between those two sentences is what this record exists to hold.
